Strikas’ Super League beginning: dismal start, great recovery
Supa Strikas started their Super League bid badly when they went down to last season’s relegation survivors, Club Orion, but recovered brilliantly when they beat ex-champions, Iron Tank, thanks to Shegs’ superb display.
Club Orion arrived at Strikaland with a single mission: to defeat the team they failed to beat during last season’s Super League. With both coaches well aware of the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses, this showdown was bound to be an interesting one.
First Game: Strikas started the game on fire, but Shegs wasn’t at his best as he struggled to connect with his teammates. For Club Orion it was all going well and they stunned the local fans by taking the lead. Strikas fans were mad at Shegs for missing opportunity after opportunity, which didn’t help the Men in Red as they went down to the minors.

After the loss, Strikas fans blamed Shegs, but Coach protected his striker and told Supanews Shegs played well, but it just wasn’t his lucky day. “They should give him time to recover from missing the penalty last season. I know he’ll be back at his best in no time,” he added.
Second Game: This was a huge game for Shegs to prove himself as Strikas faced ex-Super League champions, Iron Tank. It started all wrong for Shegs as he lost the ball, which gave Tank the break to score first. This was a nightmare start for Shegs as again and again he missed beautiful chances to level the game, but failed. However, El Matador came to the rescue just before halftime to score Strikas’ first Super League goal this season.
In the second stanza, Shegs returned a reformed player and showed his class – menacing the Tank goalmouth like a hungry tiger hunting for a springbok. Tank resorted to heavy tackling in order to stop Shegs from getting a goal. And later in the game Strikas were awarded a free kick after another heavy tackle from Über. Shegs didn’t let this opportunity go to waste as he netted his first Super League goal, which registered Strikas’ first three points in the tournament.

After the win Supanews spoke to Coach, asking him about the team’s major aims for this year’s Super League challenge. Coach said he plans to defeat archrivals Invincible United, who Strikas failed to beat last season, and finish on top of the league table. Supanews wishes Coach and Supa Strikas all the best!
